This is really long.
▲: (Just messing around with AUs and roleplaying Rapunzel!Jade- be whoever you want, if you're interested.)
▼: (Let's do this.)
▲: (Awesome! Do you mind starting us off?)
▼: (Certainly! One moment please.)
▼: Dave wandered aimlessly through the woods, not really heading anywhere other than away from civilization. He wandered deeper into the forest than he ever had before, letting himself get thoroughly lost in the trees. He'd find his way out later. He was just thinking about whether he'd even go back at all when he stumbled into a clearing.
▲: Jade sighed, leaning back against her window and letting some of her long, dark hair trail out over the sill. She absent-mindedly played with a few strands as she counted the cracks in her ceiling for the umpteenth time. She wondered when her grandfather would return and provide her with at least a bit of company to ease the crushing boredom of her tower-ed life.
▼: Dave looked around in the clearing and nearly gasped when he saw the looming tower. He'd never even heard of such a structure, he really must have gotten lost this time. He circled the tower and looked around, searching for an entrance. "Hello?" He called, wondering if anyone even lived in the strange place.
▲: Jade furrowed her brow, sure she had heard a sound from the ground below- a voice. It was too young to be her grandfather's- but that was impossible! Nobody knew about this tower but him! Jade turned over, clutching the windowsill tightly and leaning out to get a better look at the stranger.
▼: Dave looked up at the one window on the tower, squinting a bit behind his sunglasses. He would have sworn that a girl about his age was looking out, but he couldn't be sure from this distance.
▲: That was definitely a person down there- a man? No. . . he was her age. But what was he doing here? Jade gasped as the figure below turned his head in her direction, then ducked below the window. "Oh shit shit shit shit shit." This was bad. No one was supposed to see her. No one was supposed to know about her. Oh, but she couldn't just leave him for her grandfather to find! He meant well but he didn't take kindly to trespassers. Jade peeked above the windowsill just a bit, calling down. "Ummm- you really shouldn't be here!"
▼: Dave stared up at the tower. Yup, definitely a girl about his age. "And why not?" He called up to her. He could only really see her hair from this far away, sleek and jet black.
▲: Jade peeked a little further out of the window. "Because you're not allowed to be here!"
▼: "And why not?" Dave repeated. He was started to get a crick in his neck from looking up for so long.
▲: Jade frowned, gripping the sill tighter and leaning almost halfway out of the window, "Because you're trespassing!"
▼: "Trespassing on what? The Royal forest is open to the public." Dave stepped back a bit so he wouldn't have to look up quite so far. He could see the girl better from this angle, anyway.
▲: "But this is-" Jade leaned a bit too far, and vertigo caught hold of her. "Ee-eep!" Luckilly she managed to spring back before she fell completely out of the window. A fall of that distance would have killed her! Taking a deep breath she leaned out the window again. "This is my grandfather's land!"
▼: "Careful!" Dave cried, moving closer to the tower when the girl nearly fell. He relaxed when she appeared again. "Well then your grandfather can tell me to leave. I'm not doing any harm."
▲: Jade bit her lip. Who knew when her grandfather would be back? "There's really no way I can convince you to go? It's not safe for you here!" Why was this boy so stubborn. Jade nervously played with her hair, her fingers darting through long dark strands.
▼: Dave snorted a little. "Dangerous? I've seen every inch of this forest. There's nothing in it I can't handle." His hand settled on the sword at his hip. He knew full well how to take care of himself. "And if it's so dangerous, why are you out here?"
▲: Urgh. How could she explain that the danger was her Grandfather and her dog? If she said they were a danger to anyone- well, then people would want to hurt them! "Um- well I'm in my tower! And nobody can get in!"
▼: "Nobody? Not even your grandfather?" Dave asked. He wished he could talk to the girl on even footing. Even looking up at her like this, he could tell she was pretty.
▲: "Oh well-" Jade hesitated. Should she really be telling this to a complete stranger? Grandfather had warned her to keep her hair a secret. "He. . . has a way of getting up."
▲: *in
▼: "I don't think I could climb this tower, let alone you're grandfather." Dave said as he walked to the tower wall. He ran his hand over the smooth stone outside, completely bare of any handhold.
▲: "Oh um. . . he doesn't climb the tower, per se. . ." Why was she being such a blabbermouth?! Grandfather would be so upset with her! But for some reason this boy was just so easy to talk to.
▼: "So he flies. Sounds cool. Birdy grandpa. Caw caw." Dave said, barely managing to keep the smile off his face as he looked up at the girl again.
▲: "Oh no he doesn't fly!" Jade giggled. The image of her grandfather flying like a bird was just too ridiculous!
▼: Dave felt a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "I'm Dave, by the way." He leaned against a tree at the edge of the clearing, still looking up at the girl.
▲: Jade smiled, folding her arms on her windowsill and resting her chin on them. "I'm Jade. It's nice to meet you, Dave.
▲: "
▼: "I'd bow and kiss your hand like the proper gentleman I am, but you can see why that's not happening." Dave waved vaguely at the distance between them.
▲: "Oh, um. . ." Jade took a step back from her window. Should she. . .? What grandfather didn't know wouldn't hurt him- right? She stepped back toward the window. "I- I could let you in, if you'd like."
▼: "How would you do that? I can't fly up there. No wings, see?" Dave swung his cloak out behind him, revealing just a plain old human back underneath it.
▲: Jade laughed nervously. "Promise you won't freak out?"
▼: "Promise."
▲: "Okay. . ." Jade took a few steps back and gathered up her hair, swinging it over one of the support beams of her ceiling to anchor herself, then called out, "Watch out below!" and lobbed the long black mess out the window.
▼: Dave stood back and watched as a long mass of hair fell from the window. He let out an amazed whistle as it fell all the way to the bottom of the tower. "That's one hell of a head of hair, Jade. Now what?" He reached out and ran his fingers through the nearest lock, feeling the black strands between his fingers.
▲: "Um- thank you?" Jade rubbed her head, wondering if that was a compliment or not. "Well, now you climb up! Duh!"
▼: "Climb? Won't that hurt you?" Dave asked, wrapping his hands around the long mass of hair and testing how sturdy it was.
▲: "Oh no! I figured out how to keep it from hurting a long time ago!" Jade answered, glancing at the beam her hair was wrapped around. "Come on- just climb on up!"
▼: "Whatever you say." Dave muttered and grabbed a hold of the hair. He started to climb, bracing his feet on the tower wall as he made his way up.
▲: "Be careful!" Jade called down. Even her grandfather slipped a bit from time to time, and he'd been climbing her hair for years! She really didn't want her new friend to get hurt.
▼: "Will do!" Dave called back. He was almost halfway up the tower now, so he didn't slow down.
▲: When Dave was almost all the way to her window, Jade reached down a hand to pull him up. "Alley-oop!"
▼: Dave grunted a little as she pulled him up. "What's with the maximum security, anyway? You a wanted criminal, Jade?"
▲: Jade tried to laugh the question off. SHE wasn't. "That would be impossible, Dave!"
▼: "Impossible how?" Dave asked as he looked around, examining the inside of the tower.
▲: Jade took a seat on an old wicker chair, gathering her hair up in her lap. "Well. . . I've never left this tower."
▼: Dave turned back to Jade, a slight frown pulling at his mouth. "Never? Seriously?"
▲: Jade saw she had made her new friend unhappy, and averted her gaze, nervously stroking her hair. "Um- no. Never. I've been in this tower since I was a baby."
▼: Dave took a seat nearby. "So you've never even felt the grass beneath your feet? Never climbed any trees? Never seen the ocean?"
▲: "I've seen the ocean!" Jade leapt to her feet and scrambled to her bookcase, pulling down a large and well worn tome, then carried it back to her seat and flipped it open. She turned the pages until she reached a painting of the ocean shore, then showed Dave ten more pages of oceans. "See?"
▼: Dave snorted and rolled his eyes behind his glasses. "The actual ocean, not a picture. Pictures don't get it right, you can't see the waves or smell the salt."
▲: "Oh well my grandfather brought me back a bottle of sea salt once too!" Jade leapt up, preparing to search her room once more.
▼: "Your grandpa travels a lot?" Dave watched Jade stand, but he didn't move. He was a bit tired out from the climb.
▲: Jade stopped in her place and looked down at the floor, twiddling her fingers. "Yeah. . . He can't stay here for very long- usually just a week at a time- oh!" Jade's gaze snapped back up as she realized she wasn't giving Dave a very good impression of her grandfather. "But he always brings me back souvenirs!"
▼: Dave nodded, looking around the tower. "I kind of noticed. All this stuff from his trips?" Dave waved at all the shelves.
▲: Jade nodded, a huge grin on her face. "Yeah! I've got all kinds of books and plants and artifacts from all over the world in here!"

Virginia allows discrimination in adoption →
gaywrites:
The state of Virginia has essentially passed legislation making it legal for private adoption agencies to discriminate against LGBT parents.
This bill would allow agencies to deny couples adoptions on the basis of a conflict with their religious or moral beliefs, subtly but surely pointing to homosexuality. Virginia’s state Senate and House have both passed the bill and Gov. Bob...
